How to convert PNG to JPG
- Drop your PNG files on the box, click Choose images, or paste. Up to 30 files can be converted together, and other formats in the same batch are converted too.
- JPG is already selected under Convert to. Set the quality (90% by default) and the background color used where the PNG is transparent.
- Each file is converted in turn; the list shows the new size and any notes. Drag the preview divider to compare the original with the JPG copy.
- Download files one by one or click Download all (ZIP).
What happens to transparency
JPG cannot store transparency. Every transparent or semi-transparent pixel has to be blended onto a solid color. Pixdesk uses white by default, which suits documents, product photos and most web pages, but you can pick any color with the Background for transparent areas control, for example your site’s background or black for a dark theme. The preview shows the result before you download.
If you need to keep transparency, convert to WebP instead (PNG to WebP), or keep PNG and use the compressor’s Smart mode.
When JPG is a good idea, and when it is not
JPG is excellent for photographs saved as PNG, such as camera exports and photo screenshots: they often shrink by 70–90%. In our batch test a 1600 × 1200 photographic PNG of 3.9 MB became a JPG of well under a megabyte.
JPG is a poor fit for flat graphics with sharp edges: logos, charts, UI screenshots with text. JPG blurs hard edges and adds faint “ringing” around letters, and the file may not even be smaller. Our sample graphic is 34 KB as PNG and 31 KB as JPG at 90%, while Smart PNG gets it to 13 KB with perfectly sharp edges and WebP to 10 KB.
| Image type | Best format |
|---|---|
| Photo, camera export | JPG at 80–90% (or WebP) |
| Screenshot with text | PNG (Smart) or WebP |
| Logo, icon, chart | PNG (Smart) or WebP |
| Anything that needs transparency | PNG or WebP |

Everything happens inside this browser tab. Pixdesk reads your files with the browser’s own image decoder, redraws them on a canvas in a background worker and saves the new file with the browser’s encoder. There is no upload endpoint on pixdesk.cc, and the page makes no network request while it works. You can check that yourself in two minutes with your browser’s Network panel.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert PNG to JPG?
Drop the PNG files here with JPG selected, adjust the quality if you like, and download. Up to 30 files can be converted at once.
What happens to the transparent background?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a solid color. White is the default; choose another color in the settings before downloading.
Will converting PNG to JPG reduce quality?
JPG is lossy. At 90% photos look the same, but text and sharp lines can get slightly soft. Check at 100% zoom with the before and after slider.
Why is the JPG not smaller than my PNG?
Simple graphics with few colors compress very well as PNG. For those, JPG may be the same size or larger. Use Smart PNG or WebP instead.
What quality should I use?
90% for screenshots and graphics you must convert, 80–85% for photos. Lower values make smaller files with more visible artifacts.
Can I convert a batch of PNG screenshots?
Yes. Add up to 30 PNG files and download all JPGs as one ZIP.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Pixdesk converts PNG to JPG in your browser, and the files never leave your device.
Is the PNG metadata kept?
No. The JPG contains only pixels; text chunks and any EXIF data in the PNG are not copied.
