Every number below was read on the platform’s own help or developer page on 19 Oct 2026, and each row links to that page. Where an official page could not be opened or gives no number, the row says Could not verify instead of repeating sizes from blogs.

How to use this table
Upload a bit larger, not smaller. Platforms scale images down for display and for different screens. A file at the recommended size, or the same shape at a higher resolution, gives their compression the best start. Enlarging a small image does not add detail.
Keep the shape, then the pixels. The aspect ratio decides what gets cropped, so match the shape first. Instagram, for example, keeps photos between 1.91:1 and 3:4 uncropped and simply scales them to 1080 px wide.
Mind the safe areas. Profile pictures are cut into circles, cover photos are cropped differently on phones and computers, and Stories put buttons over the top and bottom of the image. Keep faces and text away from the edges.
Ad specs are not always the organic sizes. Several rows come from Meta, TikTok and X advertising documentation, because those are the official pages that state pixel numbers. They work well for regular posts too, but the platforms may display organic posts slightly differently.
About “Could not verify”. X’s help center refused our requests, TikTok’s support pages did not render, and neither Instagram nor Facebook publishes a profile-photo or event-cover size on an official page we could open. Sizes you see elsewhere for those may be right, but we only list what we could check ourselves.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best image size for Instagram posts?
Instagram keeps photos up to 1080 pixels wide with shapes from 1.91:1 to 3:4. That means 1080 by 1080 for square, 1080 by 1350 for 4:5 portrait and up to 1080 by 1440 for 3:4.
What size should a link preview image be?
Meta recommends at least 1200 by 630 pixels at about 1.91:1 and up to 8 MB. LinkedIn lists 1200 by 627. One 1200 by 630 image works for both.
What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
YouTube recommends 3840 by 2160 for videos and 2160 by 3840 for Shorts, at least 640 pixels wide, under 2 MB from mobile and 50 MB from a computer.
Why are some sizes marked Could not verify?
We only list numbers we read on an official platform page. When that page could not be opened or does not state a size, we say so instead of copying numbers from other websites.
